I Got A Top Writer Email…
I haven’t been very consistent with drawing cartoons.
BUT THEN THIS HAPPENED.
CHECK IT OUT BELOW:
I was amazed because this happened with very little effort on my part. My cartoons have been sporadic at best and it was a delightful rush to my ego.
And then, as quickly as it appeared, the “Top Writer in Humor” tag line vanished.
; _ ;
I refreshed my browser a few times but the illustrious “Top Writer in Humor” tag line refused to reappear.
I didn’t deserve it because I witness how writers and artists on Medium are putting in the hard work to produce consistently and I am not putting in the hard work. I post on whim and when I get the creative inspiration and make the time.
Perhaps it was a blip in Medium’s algorithm and I just lucked out. Perhaps it’s a nudge from Medium to make writers/artists to produce more content.
So now what?
I found an entry from my cartoon travel log book:
March 30, 2016
“I decided I really want to be a cartoonist. I always liked to draw and if I didn’t, I’d feel bad.”
I wrote that entry while I was vacationing Upstate (my favorite place to be — ticks be damned). I went to a bookstore in Kingston and happened to meet a New Yorker cartoonist. A beautiful, tall woman with curly black hair and glasses that only emphasized her beauty instead of disguises it.
Most cartoonists are attractive and have a lively energy to them. She was with her husband and buoyant and I felt a little shy and mumbled something about my buddy, cartoonist Tim Hamilton (also a New Yorker cartoonist.)
Here’s another entry:
June 29, 2017
“I love drawing cartoons.”
Perhaps the universe is sending me a message.
UPDATE: Am I on crack? TOP WRITER IN HUMOR LINE IS BACK! Let me have this small joy…please?
*Fist pumps whilst skipping down the street.*
