What Do We Leave Behind?

After a while, the guy stopped standing outside his store and remained shuttered. Then they started cleaning out the store I noticed a young woman standing outside and watching the workers. Her arms were crossed and she looked a little sad. I wondered if it was her dad and if he had passed away.

I didn’t get to know his name but I did see that a sticker on his license plate indicated that he was from Ronkonkoma, New York. It’s a small town in Long Island that no one really knows about unless you’re from the area.

As a kid I would go to Ronkonkoma Lanes (a bowling ally) with my mom when she bowled in tournaments. I have happy memories of those days filled with Bazooka Joe and Chinese jumprope.

The actual store
